Vitamin B12 Injections
A quick intramuscular injection for people with low or borderline B12.
From £45An infusion of fluids and nutrients given by a nurse after a health assessment.
A cannula is placed in the arm and a bag of saline with the relevant nutrients is infused slowly over the session. Going directly into the blood bypasses the gut, which matters when absorption is the limiting factor. What goes in the bag is decided from your questionnaire and, where we have them, your blood results, rather than from a menu of names.
As needed. Where there is a documented deficiency, a short series then a recheck.
Not given if you have kidney disease, heart failure, a known G6PD deficiency where high dose vitamin C is involved, or are pregnant. We will decline if you are unwell, and ask you to see your GP instead.
Every treatment here is assessed at consultation first. This list covers the common reasons we would not proceed, and it is not exhaustive. Bring your medication list and tell us about anything you are being treated for.
If you are genuinely low in something, correcting it helps. If you are not, an infusion mostly produces expensive urine and a placebo lift. We would rather test first, and we will tell you when we think you do not need this.
For a one off hydration infusion, no. For anything targeting a deficiency, yes, and we will arrange a panel. Treating a deficiency you have not confirmed is guesswork.
In trained hands and with proper screening, the risks are small and mostly local. A nurse stays with you throughout. The risk rises sharply when infusions are given without screening, which is why ours are not.
