Infrared Sauna Therapy

A cabin that warms the body directly with infrared, at a lower air temperature than a traditional sauna.

What it treats

  • Muscle soreness after training
  • Stiffness and general aches
  • Winding down and sleep quality
  • Recovery days
  • Circulation

How it works

Infrared panels warm your body directly rather than heating the air around you, so you reach a useful core temperature at around 50 degrees instead of 90. That makes the session far easier to sit through, particularly for people who find traditional saunas oppressive. The physiological effect is a mild cardiovascular load and increased blood flow to the skin and muscle.

Typical course

Two or three times a week suits most people using it for recovery.

Who it is not suitable for

Not suitable if you are pregnant, have uncontrolled high or low blood pressure, unstable heart disease, or a condition that impairs sweating or heat regulation. Do not use it after drinking alcohol.

Every treatment here is assessed at consultation first. This list covers the common reasons we would not proceed, and it is not exhaustive. Bring your medication list and tell us about anything you are being treated for.

Questions people ask

Does it detox you?

No. Sweat is mostly water and salt, and detoxification is done by your liver and kidneys. What it does do is relax muscle, improve how you sleep for a night or two, and feel very good on a cold day.

Does it burn calories?

A small amount, comparable to a gentle walk, and any weight lost during the session is fluid you will replace within the hour. It is not a weight loss tool and we will not sell it as one.

Is it better than a normal sauna?

It is easier to tolerate for longer because the air is cooler. Whether that makes it better depends on you. Traditional saunas have more research behind them, particularly the Finnish cohort work.
