What it actually is
Fat is not distributed evenly and the distribution is largely inherited. Some deposits, typically the flanks, the lower abdomen and under the chin, hold on long after the rest of the body has responded to diet and training. Contouring treatments reduce the number of fat cells in a defined area rather than shrinking the whole body.
What causes it
- Genetics, which set where you store and in what order you release.
- Hormonal change, particularly around menopause, which moves storage toward the middle.
- Posture and previous surgery, both of which can make a pocket look larger than it measures.
- A stable weight that is simply higher than the one you have in mind, which is a different conversation and an honest one to have.
Before you book anything
If the goal is a lower weight rather than a changed shape, start with your GP or with our weight programme rather than here. Contouring an area while the weight is still moving wastes the money.

What treatment can do
Reduce a defined pocket by roughly twenty to twenty five per cent per treated cycle, which is measurable but not dramatic. The best candidates are people within about seven kilos of a stable weight who can hold a specific area between their fingers.
What it cannot do
This is not a weight loss treatment, it does not affect visceral fat around the organs, and it will not tighten loose skin. If anything, reducing volume under loose skin can make the skin look looser. We assess that first and will say if it applies to you.

Cooling treatment is one to two cycles per area, twelve weeks apart, with the result appearing between weeks four and twelve. Injectable fat dissolving is two to four sessions six weeks apart and produces real swelling for several days each time. Neither is a same week fix before an event.
Course pricing is lower than the same sessions bought one at a time, and spreading the cost is available over three months on anything above £300.
