Fat Dissolving Injections

A series of small injections that break down a small, well defined fat deposit.

What it treats

  • Under the chin
  • Jowl area
  • Bra line
  • Inner knees
  • Small areas that resist contouring devices

How it works

A solution is injected across a grid into the fat layer, where it disrupts the cell membranes. The contents are released and cleared by the body over the following weeks, which is why swelling is part of how the treatment works rather than a side effect of it. Small areas suit this far better than large ones.

Typical course

Two to four sessions spaced six weeks apart, depending on the depth of the deposit.

Who it is not suitable for

Not used in anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, has an active infection at the site, or has a bleeding disorder. It is not suitable for large volumes, for loose skin, or where the fullness is caused by muscle or glandular tissue rather than fat.

Every treatment here is assessed at consultation first. This list covers the common reasons we would not proceed, and it is not exhaustive. Bring your medication list and tell us about anything you are being treated for.

Questions people ask

How swollen will I be?

Under the chin, expect to look noticeably fuller for three to five days. Plan it around your diary. Most people take the treatment on a Thursday and are presentable by Monday.

Why not use a cooling device instead?

Cooling applicators need a pocket they can draw into the cup. Where the deposit is small, flat or awkwardly placed, injections reach it and the applicator does not.

Will the skin be loose afterwards?

If the skin has reasonable elasticity it usually redrapes. Where laxity is already present, we will often suggest tightening the area first or alongside, because removing the fat alone can make loose skin more obvious.
