What it treats

  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Lines at the outer corners of the eyes
  • A gummy smile or downturned mouth corners
  • Jaw clenching and teeth grinding

How it works

Lines that appear when you move are caused by the muscle underneath folding the skin in the same place thousands of times. A very small dose placed into specific muscles reduces how strongly they contract, so the skin above stops being folded and the line softens over the following weeks. Dose and placement are what separate a natural result from a frozen one, and we start low.

Typical course

Every three to four months. A review is included at two weeks for your first treatment.

Who it is not suitable for

Not used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, or have an infection at the injection site. Not appropriate for lines that are visible when your face is completely still, which need a different approach.

Every treatment here is assessed at consultation first. This list covers the common reasons we would not proceed, and it is not exhaustive. Bring your medication list and tell us about anything you are being treated for.

Questions people ask

Why does this page not name a brand?

The medicine used is a prescription only medicine, and UK rules do not allow prescription only medicines to be advertised to the public. Your clinician will tell you exactly which product they are using and why, in consultation, which is where that discussion belongs.

How long until it works, and how long does it last?

You will notice movement changing from day three, with the full effect at two weeks. Most people get three to four months, and it tends to last slightly longer once you have had a few treatments.

Will I look frozen?

Not if the dose is right. We start conservatively and bring you back at two weeks, because it is straightforward to add a little more and impossible to take any away.
